Prewitt to Take Over As Police Chief on Interim Basis
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The city has announced that Captain Courtney Prewitt will take over as police chief on an interim basis for the retiring James Hawkins. Along with his sixteen years of experience in law enforcement, Hawkins praised Prewitt for his role leading the local security team during April’s visit by former President Geroge W. Bush. Hawkins also knows the direction set by city manager Matt Allen will make the transition smooth.
Prewitt says he has no interest in being hired to the chief’s position permanently. The search for Hawkins’ successor is expected to last the summer.
