Ryckman: New Look Education Funding Model Next For State

Meade, KS (westernkansasnews.com) When the legislature passed funding the state’s educational system with block grants it was met with a lot of opposition from school districts. Going from the old funding model to this way of funding education was a big step. State Representative Ron Ryckman Senior of Meade explains block grant funding is only temporary.

Ryckman says without changes this year, smaller districts that lost money from devaluation of property would be left holding the bag.

Some districts will consider all options available to survive. Ryckman and his colleagues are concerned what some systems might do.

Depending on what the state Supreme Court decides, block grants will be turned over for a new funding model in two years.
