Improving Access, Quality of Childcare Center of Discussion Thursday

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Finding childcare in Garden City is a growing need and the problem is not going away.  To discuss the issue and possible solutions the Alliance for Childhood Education hosted a forum at the Clarion Inn.  

Boardmember John Van DeWalle believes this problem is too great too ignore.

DeAnna Berry is Director of the Russell Child Development Center and has seen the burden of finding good childcare firsthand.

Four years ago up to 500 children were unable to receive the care they needed from a provider.  The number is expected to be higher now.  

Another area that received attention was developing cognitive abilities for a child.  Doctor Michelle Stanton stands by exploring these opportunities.

Finney County Administrator Randy Partington says lack of quality daycare can be a stumbling block for bringing families in.

There is talk about getting the county involved again in licensing these facilities.
