Water, Renewable Energy Part of Big First Public Forum

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Chamber hosted Monday night’s public forum with the candidates for Congress in the Big First.  Republican Doctor Roger Marshall addressed his balanced approach to meeting our energy needs.

Marshall’s opponent Alan LaPolice (Ind.) focused on preserving water resources.

LaPolice believes the federal government needs to implement water plans from 50-100 years out. 

Helping Western Kansas farmers was also a topic of discussion. Alan LaPolice believes there are other ways to help farmers beyond subsidies.

Marshall has thrown his support in keeping crop insurance strong, but he has called for revamping the tax code.

Marshall says ideally most people should fill out their tax returns on a postcard.  We will hear more from the candidates in the coming days including Libertarian candidate Kerry Burt.
