USD 457 Board of Education Meeting March 26, 2020

The USD 457 Board of Education met Thursday, March 26th, during a regularly scheduled meeting.

The Board of Education conducted its meeting virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This was done to make sure the public, Board members, and school staff involved in the meeting are safe.  The district also wants to adhere to the directive from the state of 10 people in an area with a six foot separation between people.  The meeting was presented live on YouTube and has been posted on the district’s YouTube channel, which can be found as a button at the bottom of the district’s website at www.gckschools.com

The Board reviewed and approved the Continuous Learning Plan and the waiver of attendance hours for the Kansas State Department of Education. 

The Board approved amending the graduation requirements for Garden City High School for the class of 2020. 

Other business that the Board approved under the consent agenda included a 10gb Ethernet Fiber Module and Cisco equipment, Nutanix G7 disk expansion, HVAC improvements for Abe Hubert, Alta Brown Elementary Schools and Horace Good Middle School, a Resolution of the Board regarding Wage Payments during Emergency School Closings, and a change of Introductory Craft Skills to Carpentry I at Garden City High School dual credit course with Garden City Community College and Carpentry II at Garden City High School dual credit course with Garden City Community College.

The Board approved the 2020-2021 school calendar.  The first day that the district is looking to hold school will be on Monday, August 10 with morning class for elementary, fifth, seventh, ninth and tenth grades and students new to the district.  There will be a teacher workday in the afternoon.  The first full day of school for all students will be on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will be Monday, April 6, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming Street.
