Coffeyville offense overpowers Dodge City

DODGE CITY – Coffeyville’s offense scored on all four possessions in the first half Saturday, blew open a third quarter lead, and the 14th-ranked Red Ravens pulled away late to down Dodge City 38-10 at Memorial Stadium.

Isaiah Velez was surgical for the Red Ravens, delivering on 21-of-29 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown. Coffeyville had 12 different receivers make catches, led by Joseph Young, who made five grabs for 73 yards.

Dorian Lewis added 108 rushing yards, highlighted by a 72-yard run to set up a cornerstone Red Raven touchdown in the third quarter, giving them a 31-10 lead at the time. Coffeyville racked up nearly 500 yards of total offense.

Dodge City’s offense scored their only touchdown on the first drive of the game when Grant Ciccarone connected with Kam’Ryn Thomas for a 31-yard TD on fourth down and 14. Past that, Dylan Seeker chipped in a 22-yard field goal midway through the second quarter, and the Conqs would be shut out the rest of the game.

Penalties plagued both units Saturday, with the teams combining for 223 penalty yards on 21 infractions.

Coffeyville coach Jeff Leiker earned his 100th career win, with 67 coming as head coach of the Red Ravens.

Dodge City falls to 0-2 with the loss and lost their seventh straight to Coffeyville.

The Conquistadors return to action next Saturday when they host winless Highland at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
