Elizabeth M. Ackerman
Elizabeth M. Ackerman, 107, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
She was born April 12, 1909 at Spearville, the daughter of Herman “Harry” and Catherine (Heeke) Schawe. A longtime Windthorst area resident, moving to Spearville in 1967, and to Dodge City in 1995, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society both in Windthorst until its closing then became a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville.
On October 3, 1933 she married Charles C. Ackerman at Windthorst. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1995.
Survivors include: 5 children, Gil Ackerman and wife Sandy, Spearville, Cathy Brungardt, Garden City, Alice Craig and husband Larry, Lubbock, Texas, Erma Schneweis and husband Bob, Dodge City and Martha Strecker and husband Rich, Dodge City; her sister, Sister Ancilla Schawe, Great Bend; 22 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Schawe, 4 sisters, Virginia Gillogly, Gertrude Rueb, Magdalen Ackerman and Pauline Durler and 3 granddaughters, Dana Ackerman, Rhonda Craig and Shelly Schneweis.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Windthorst, with Fr. John Forkuoh and Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Windthorst. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
