Charlcie Mae Black, 86, died April 18, 2017 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.  She was born on July 30, 1930 at Blackwell, Oklahoma the daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Graves) Pennell.  

Charlcie was a 1948 graduate of Syracuse High School and then attended Denver University.  She finished her education at Emporia State University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education.  On August 8, 1954 she married Wesley Black at Syracuse.  A longtime resident of Dodge City she was a homemaker and substitute teacher with the Dodge City School District.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dodge City and United Methodist Women’s Circle.

Charlcie is survived by her daughter, Melinda Hodgson and husband Kendall of Little River; three grandchildren, Tanner, Logan, and Bailey Hodgson all of Little River; cousin, Margaret Douglas of Minneola and special friend, Kathie Schlereth of Dodge City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley; a son, Ray Black; and brother, Jerry Pennell.

Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday April 22, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jerre Nolte presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday April 21, 2017 from Noon to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Meals on Wheels both in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
