Red Demons fall to Great Bend on Homecoming

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Dodge City football lost to Great Bend 38-13 Friday night.

The Red Demons stayed close for most of the evening. Great Bend(2-2, 1-1) led 21-13 entering the fourth quarter.

The moment swing however took place late in the first half. Dodge City had the ball at their own 12 with 4:29 left in the half, the first play of the drive was fumbled read option between Beau Foster and Jaiel Johnson that the Panthers recovered at the Dodge City 5 yard line. Three plays later Great Bend on a one yard run by quarterback Koy Brock.

That turnover was the first of four Dodge City, two fumbles and two interceptions, three of which came in the second half. The other fumble was also crucial. With 3:27 to go in the third quarter Beau Foster ripped a big run inside the Great Bend was the ball was poked out at the end of the run and recovered by Great Bend.

The Red Demons finished the night with more yards than Great Bend, out gaining them 419 to 392 yards, but couldn’t overcome their mistakes.

Koy Brock led the way for Great Bend with 290 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. Dalton Bieker had four catches for 122 yards and a touchdown. Gage Fritz had 102 yards rushing and a touchdown.

For Dodge City Beau Foster was 16-31 passing for 256 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Foster also had 115 yards rushing and a touchdown. Dawson Williams had two catches for 91 yards and a touchdown. De’Jon Delgado caught four passes for 69 yards.

Jesus Herrera and Mireya Chacon were named the Homecoming King and Queen. Miguel Bacca and Vanessa Teran were first runner-up and Christian Garcia and Alexis Ontiberos were second runner-up.
