Moscow, KS(westernkansasnews.com) A haystack fire that started Northeast of Moscow Sunday morning is now contained. According to Stevens County Emergency Services the fire started at 11:15 a.m. and crews from Stevens County and Haskell County battled to contain the flames.

Sunday afternoon Governor Jeff Colyer issued a Declaration of Disaster Emergency. Much of the state is currently under a Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service for strong winds and dry conditions. Fires may spread rapidly out of control. KDEM officials encourage citizens to practice fire safety and to stay diligent in preventing wildfires.

Crews ask that people continue to stay clear of the area. Monday a High Wind Warning is in effect for Northwest and West Central Kansas along with a red flag fire warning for most of Southwest Kansas.
