Scott City baseball collects home sweep
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On Tuesday, the Scott City baseball team began their 10-game homstand to close the regular season out, as they played host to the Goodland Cowboys in GWAC play. The Beavers would lead for a vast majority of the day, as the dramatics would take place in the seventh inning in both games. Scott City would find ways to win, as they rallied for a 4-3 victory in eight innings, and complete the sweep by hanging on for a 6-5 win in the finale.
Scott City 4, Goodland 3, Game 1 (8 Innings)
It was a matchup of two of the top pitchers in the league, as they would have control for a majority of the game. Despite having one hit over the first three innings, the Beavers would finally get on the board in the fourth inning, as they took advantage of a Goodland error with two outs that gave Scott City the 1-0 lead. That score would hold up through the first six innings. In the seventh, the Cowboys would collect four of their five hits, as they took a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the frame. In the bottom of the seventh, the Beavers would force extra innings with two runs of their own. Playing in their third extra inning game of the year, Scott City was able to get the go-ahead run on a two-out error that scored Eloy Ruelas.
Ruelas would get the win in relief, going 1 1/3 innings. Brady Welker received a no-decision, as the pitch limit would hit him in the seventh inning. Welker had 14 strikeouts, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits. Welker and Avery Radke would have two hits apiece. Zach Thorson took the loss for Goodland, giving up an unearned run. Cole Linton struck out 15 batters in seven innings of work, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits. The Cowboys committed four errors in the opener.
Scott City 6, Goodland 5, Game 2
The Beavers would strike early and never trail in the finale. Scott City would jump out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, and extend their lead to 5-0 after the third inning. In the fourth inning, both teams would tack on a run, as the Beavers led 6-1. That would remain the score until the top of the seventh, when the Cowboys would mount a rally. They plated four runs, and had the tying run at third with two outs. Scott City was able to get a fly out to close the game, and hang on for the 6-5 win.
Eloy Ruelas started game two, going 3 2/3 innings, giving up a run on two hits. Aaron Armendariz went 2 1/3-plus innings, giving up three runs, two earned on two hits. It would be Spencer Cramer picking up the save in the seventh, as he gave up an unearned run on a hit and struck out two batters. Armendariz had two hits and two RBI in the second game, and Brooks Bailey would collect two hits and Carson Batterton drove in a pair of runs. Kacen Sederstrom took the loss, going the first inning, givinig up three runs on two hits. Zach Thorson had two hits and an RBI for Goodland.

At 7-5 overall and 4-4 in GWAC play, Scott City will host Ellis on Friday. Goodland dropped to 2-10 overall, 2-6 in league play, as they will be at Wray on Thursday.
