Late Colby Surge Slips Past Broncbusters, 53-50

GARDEN CITY, KS — Garden City Community College built an early cushion and carried the lead into halftime, but Colby Community College’s fourth-quarter surge proved to be the difference as the Trojans escaped Conestoga Arena with a 53-50 win Wednesday night.

The Broncbusters (12-4, 7-4) came out sharp on both ends, opening the game with early threes from Carlye Fortas and Luana Luz and turning stops into quick points to grab momentum. Garden City led 17-10 after the first quarter, holding Colby to 10 points and forcing tough looks.

Garden City maintained control into the break, taking a 27-18 halftime advantage, but Colby slowly chipped away across the middle quarters before flipping the game in the final period. Colby outscored the Broncbusters 22-11 in the fourth to complete the comeback and secure the road win.

Marshea Fisher led Garden City with 12 points, adding six rebounds and three steals, while Luana Luz knocked down three triples on her way to nine pointsCarlye Fortas finished with nine points and seven rebounds, and Elektra Mjoll provided a lift off the bench with 11 points.

Colby was paced by Dessirae Ulmer’s 15 points and Easha Potts’ 12 rebounds, while Piri Lewis added 12 points to help fuel the late push.

The Broncbusters head back on the road for a conference matchup at Coffeyville Community College on Saturday, January 14th. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM in Coffeyville.
