Garden City Community College men’s basketball coach Kris Baumann has resigned his position effective immediately. He has accepted the head men’s basketball coaching position at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. During his time at GCCC, Baumann posted a career record of 120 wins and 65 losses. His 2008-2009 team tied a Broncbuster school record for wins in a season as well as winning the NJCAA Region VI Tournament for the first time in over 50 years. That team placed sixth in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. He recruited and coached two NJCAA All-Americans in Julian Allen and Thomas Manzano, as well as coaching two Jayhawk West Players of the Year in Allen and Roy Bright. “I am excited about the new opportunity as anyone would be,” said Baumann. “I would never have had this opportunity if Garden City had not taken a chance on me seven years ago. I have enjoyed being the head coach at Garden City Community College every second of every day for six years.” “Coach Baumann has been an important part of Broncbuster athletics and we will miss his expertise and leadership in men’s basketball, which is one of our signature programs,” Dr. Herbert J. Swender, GCCC President.“He has left his mark on this college and throughout this community, and we will always remember him for his contributions to the success and excellence of Garden City Community College.” “Bucket has done a great job with our men’s basketball program,” said athletic director Bob Larson. “He has had very successful teams here at Garden City Community College and has done a good job of getting players to the next level. He will be missed.” A search for a new head men’s basketball coach will begin immediately. “The search for a new head coach will begin as soon as possible, and our priority will be on bringing in a dynamic leader for this program — a coach who will maintain and expand on the powerful tradition of Broncbuster basketball,” said Swender.
