Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College men’s basketball delivered another classic, back-and-forth Saturday afternoon inside Conestoga Arena, pulling away late to knock off Independence, 102–91.
The Broncbusters weathered an early surge from the Pirates, answered with timely shots, and leaned on their depth and physicality down the stretch. Garden City went into the break with a slim edge, 47–44, before opening the second half with a steady run to create separation and close the final 20 minutes with a 55-point outburst.
A balanced attack powered the Busters, led by Nico Doume who posted a monster line of 20 points and 14 rebounds to control the paint. Mangok Gach added 18 points, while Devonte Reed was perfect from the floor (5-for-5) on his way to 16 points. Dasean Lewis chipped in 15 points, and Zaire Lott knocked down three triples as Garden City finished with six threes and lived at the free throw line, going 36-of-50 at the stripe.
Independence kept pressure on with a strong bench performance and multiple scoring bursts, led by David Wilson’s 20 points and Zion Dixon’s 19. But Garden City’s second-half efficiency and rebounding edge (40–25) helped the Broncbusters escape with the win.
Up Next: The Broncbusters hit the road Wednesday, February 11, 2026, traveling to Liberal to take on the Seward County Saints inside The Greenhouse. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
