Larned, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beavers made the trip to Larned on Friday night for their sub-state openening round matchup with the Lady Indians, in hopes of picking up a big road win. Things started out well for the Lady Beavers, Larned would have the last laugh, as they pulled away late in a 45-30 win, advancing them to Wednesday’s sub-state semi-final round at Beloit.

Scott City started out well after both teams struggled from the field early on. The Lady Beavers led 7-2, before a run of 16-2 over a five-minute period gave Larned (18-6) an 18-9 lead with 4:28 left before the break. It would be Scott City rallying back to within 21-19 in the first three minutes of the second half. They would have ample opportunities to tie or retake the lead, but couldn’t get the game-tying shot. Their last shot of tying the game came at 23-21 late in the third quarter.

To open the fourth quarter, Scott City (8-13) pulled to within 26-23, before the Lady Indians scored seven straight to lead 33-23 with 5:33 left. The Lady Beavers were able to pull to within 35-30 at the 2:43 mark of the final period, when Larned closed the door with 10 consecutive points to close the game out with a 45-30 victory.

With the win, Larned snapped Scott City’s win streak at seven in the series. It was their second meeting in the postseason since 2019, and the first win in the series for the Lady Indians since their 37-35 win in 2007, and their first home win in the series since 2006.
