Broncbusters Explode for 38 Runs in Sweep of Fort Hays Tech Northwest

Goodland, KS – Garden City Community College softball put together an explosive offensive performance Saturday afternoon, sweeping Fort Hays Tech Northwest in a doubleheader at Tiger Softball Complex to improve to 16–12 overall and 3–3 in conference play.
The Broncbusters combined for 38 runs and 32 hits across the two games, breaking things open early in both contests to secure the sweep.
Game 1: Garden City 20, Fort Hays Tech Northwest 3
Garden City wasted little time setting the tone, scoring six runs in the first inning before continuing to build its lead throughout the game.
Maysen Kurene-Iwikau led the offensive charge with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, driving in four runs and blasting a home run. Averie Ashford added three RBI, while Maiarangi Waipara contributed three more as the Broncbusters piled up runs early.
Maddie Scott added two hits and two RBI off the bench, while Danna Viera and Zoey Torres each drove in a pair of runs. Garden City finished with 15 hits and seven walks in the opener.
In the circle, Skylah Breeze Joyce started and worked three innings, striking out four while allowing three runs. Ashlyn Powell closed out the final two innings as the Broncbusters secured the run-rule victory.
Game 2: Garden City 18, Fort Hays Tech Northwest 3
The Broncbusters carried that momentum straight into the second game, erupting for six runs in the first inning and adding 12 more in the second to quickly take control.
Garden City collected 17 hits in the second game, with production throughout the lineup.
Maiarangi Waipara delivered three RBI, while Zoey Torres added three RBI of her own. Michela Pugliese-Levi and Averie Ashford each drove in two runs, and Reagan Sword added two RBI as well. Maysen Kurene-Iwikau, Jadeyn Lampe, and Izzy Foster also contributed RBIs during the offensive surge.
In the circle, Valeria Mandujano earned the win, working four innings and allowing three runs while striking out two. Samantha Torres handled the final inning to close out the sweep.
Garden City’s balanced offense and aggressive baserunning fueled the Broncbusters throughout the afternoon as they continued to build momentum during the early portion of the season.
Next Up: The Broncbusters return to action Wednesday, March 18th, traveling to Pratt for a doubleheader against Pratt Community College. First pitches are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m..
