Five people die in two vehicle accident in Hodgeman County

Hodgeman County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Five people, including three children, died in a two-vehicle accident just after 1 p.m. on Thurday, approximately two miles west of Hanston in Hodgeman County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2005 Dodge Dakota driven by 48-year-old Rony Baxter Martinez-Meneses of Garden City was eastbound on Kansas Highway 156, when the tires traveled off the road. The driver overcorrected and spun into a westbound 2023 Ford Ranger with its passenger side, driven by 45-year-old Adam William Edwards of Garden City.

Passengers in the Dodge Dakota, 29-year-old Brianna Mae Katherine Kauffman, a seven-year-old boy, a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, all of Garden City, as well as Edwards, were pronounced deceased at the scene and were taken to Beckwith Mortuary. Martinez-Menses was taken to Wesley Medical Center for suspected serious injuries.

The report from thte KHP says that the three adults and three children were not wearing seatbelts.
