GCHS and Area Fall Sports Summary

Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – Three Southwest Kansas area Golf teams are headed to the 3-2-1A State Tournament next Monday, after placing in the top three at the Cimarron Regional yesterday. Syracuse took the top spot with a score of 410, Holcomb finished runner-up shooting a 444 and Lakin rounded out the top three with a 453 at the Cimarron Golf Course.

This is the 3rd straight year that the Holcomb Lady Longhorns have sent their entire team to the State event. The 2012 team was led by junior Kenzie Becker who finished 5th with a 107, Olivia Ortega was 8th and Erica Robinson finished 9th after the played a one hole play-off, both girls shot 108 in regulation play and Ortega won the play-off round for the eight spot. Makenzie Roth and Taylor Becker will also make the trip for the Lady Longhorns to the State Tournament next Monday at the Cheney Golf Course. Two Cimarron Lady Blue Jays also qualified, including Jessica Ast and Taylor Moyer.

For the 5th consecutive year, the Garden City High School Lady Buff linksters are headed to the 6A State Golf Tournament, after placing 2nd on Monday at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City. The Lady Buffs have won their Regional Championships each of the last four years, but Maize has been a tough opponent all season winning the Dodge City Regional with a score of 352. Junior Abbi Shaddix led the Lady Buffs with top medalist honors firing a 6 over 79, senior Abbey Campbell shot 82 for 3rd, Megan Steward placed 6th with a 92 and Lindsay Bradstreet shot 103 to collect the Lady Buffs score of 356, Wichita Northwest was a distant 3rd at 401. The Dodge City Lady Red Demons will also send two individual players to the State Tournament next Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wichita, including Alyssa Vasquez and Christina Clark.
