The GCCC Student Government Association Postpones River Clean up to April 28 Due to Inclement Weather

Due to inclement weather expected for this Saturday, April 21, the river clean up has been postponed to next Saturday, April 28 from 10:00 am-3:00 pm. We are most thankful for the rain opportunity and hope this does not cause too much of an inconvenience for our volunteers. Mark your calendars for the new date and come out to help with this great cause!

The City of Garden City has collaborated with SGA to organize “drop-off zones” for various items that are cleaned out of the river. With the help of the City, the junk will be categorized (tires, trash, large metal items, etc.) The organization by the City of Garden City is much appreciated as the piles will help with trash removal to proper places for disposal.

Volunteers will meet at Cleaver Field at 10:00 am for staging and to receive a packet and cleanup zone assignment. Volunteers wishing to help can contact Berenice Ayala at 620-492-5730. Volunteers are also urged to wear closed-toe shoes, and bring work gloves. Food, drinks and other supplies will be provided.

If you are unable to help with the clean up effort but want to donate; the students would appreciate donations of leather gloves, heavy duty trash bags and water . You may drop any donations off with the Coordinator of Student Activities, Lauren Rockhold, in the basement of the Beth Tedrow Student Center. Once again, for more information contact Berenice Ayala at 620-492-5730.
