Two GCCC Phi Theta Kappa Students Named to 2022 All-Kansas Academic Team

GARDEN CITY, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – Garden City Community College Phi Theta Kappa Honor
Society has named Teryn Teeter and Erika Barron-Gomez to the All-Kansas Academic Team for 2022.


Alpha Xi Upsilon, Garden City Community College’s chapter of the society, will honor members Teeter and Barrón-Gomez during a luncheon and ceremony in Junction City on April 1, 2022. Kansas is one of 39 states participating in the All-State Academic Team program. The state academic teams are a division of the All-USA Community College Academic Team. The All-USA Team Academic Team recognizes academic achievement, leadership, and community service among the top community college students. The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees, and the presidents of the state’s community colleges sponsor the All-Kansas Academic team. Students were nominated by their respective colleges and are now eligible for the All-USA Academic Team.

Teryn Teeter is a Business and Entrepreneurship major. She is from Holcomb, KS, and is the daughter of Kent and Dixie Teeter. Teryn plans to transfer to Kansas State University. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, GCCC Presidential Ambassador, Youth Group Leader, and Youth Sports Volunteer Coach Erika Barrón-Gomez is an Art Education major. She is from Ulysses, KS and her parents are Federico Barrón & Martha Gomez. Erika plans to transfer to Fort Hays State University. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the Art Club, PRISM, SSS Trio, and CAMP. Erika is also a Residential Life Assistance and Admissions Representative.


Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the national honor society of the two-year college. Students must have at least a 3.5GPA or better to be accepted to the organization. The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is the promotion of scholarship, the development of leadership and service, and the cultivation of fellowship among qualified students.
