Finney County names new County Administrator

Finney County, Kan.–In a release on Wednesday, Finney County has made a conditional offer to Derek Ramos, their preferred County Administrator Candidate.

Ramos brings over 17 years of combined experience in the public and private sectors to his current role as Assistan City Manager for the City of Garden City. His multifaceted career spans local government, leadership, education, administration, construction management and financial advising. Before joining the city, he was the Dean of Physical Planning & Facilities Management for Garden City Community College for nearly a decade.

He has a masters degree in Business Administration from National American University, and a bachelors degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University. He serves as the Vice Chair on the Kansas Hispanic/Latino American Affairs Commission and Board Chair on Finney County’s Childcare Early Learning Network.

“We are pleased to announce the hiring of Derek Ramos as the new County Adminstrator” said Commission Chairman Schultz. “Following a public meet and greet and vigorous interviews with the Commission, other elected officials and County Directors, the decision was unanimous.”

Chairman Schultz added, “We were impressed by Derek’s depth of knowledge, collaborative leadership style and vision for strengthening county services. We are confident he will be a strong asset to our community.”

Ramos officially begins his role on October 6, 2025.
