High expectations remain the same for Scott City football
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–While several pieces off a 9-2 team from 2024 are gone, the expectations remain the same for the 2025 Scott City Beaver football team.
The Beavers return their three interior offensive lineman who helped pave the way for a good season a year ago in Emilio Conteras, Reid Felker and Easton Eisenhour, and also have backs Cayden Couchman, Kevin Wiebe and Peyton Bergner returning. Junior quarterback Drew Metzger returns, and has one start under his belt.
Defensively, Bergner returns in the secondary, along with returning starters Couchman and Wiebe in the linebacking corp, to go along with Contreras on the defensive front.
It will be a challenging schedule again for Scott City, with three teams that made deep playoff runs last year. Wray was a state champion in Class 1A in Colorado, and Hoisington and Holcomb are traditional playoff powers. The district stays the same, with a good test ahead with Colby, Goodland, Holcomb and Hugoton in district play, while the non-district games will also feature Cimarron and Ulysses.
The Beavers will compete in the Great Bend Jamboree on Friday, facing Great Bend, Salina South and Hoisington, before opening up the season September 5 at Cimarron.
