Scott City girls tennis starts season at Cimarron; volleyball competes in Oakley & Hays
Scott City, Kan. (westernkasnsasnews.com)–The 2025-26 season is officially underway on Thursday, as the girls varsity girls tennis team would compete at the Cimarron Invitational. Volleyball got their season started on Friday and Saturday in Oakley and at the Maroon & Gold Invite in Hays.
For girls tennis on Thursday, the Lady Beavers would start the season out well, as they would win the Cimarron Invitational. The No. 1 Doubles team of Kaylee Felker/Finley Edwards and Shelby Massaglia at No. 2 Singles would take home first place finishes, while Marissa Alvarado at No. 1 Singles and the No. 2 Doubles team of Allie Plummer/Keri Cristler. Up next for the varsity is the Hoisington Invitational on Tuesday, September 9.
Volleyball would open their season up on Friday with a triangular in Oakley against Wallace County and Oakley. The Lady Beavers would win their first match of the year against Wallace County 22-25, 25-18, 25-16, but fell to the No. 6 ranked team in Class 2A in Oakley in the finale 20-25, 25-11, 25-13. On Saturday, they would make the trip to Hays for the Maroon & Gold Invitational in the brand new Hays High School. It would be a tough day against solid competition, as they went 0-5 on the day. Scott City faced adversity during the day with injuries, but fought hard against schools in Class 6A, 5A, 4A and 2A. Their first match was against Hays, where they would drop their opening match to Hays 25-16, 25-17. Also in Pool Play, they would fall to Lawrence Free State 25-17, 25-10 and Olathe North, preseason ranked No. 8 in 6A 25-15, 25-13. In the Silver Bracket, the Lady Beavers dropped both matches in three sets, falling to TMP Marian 25-14, 21-25 and 27-25, and to Clearwater in their finale 25-23, 21-25, 25-19. Over the seven matches in two days Piper Fox led the team with 41 kills, Peyton Gentry had 31 kills, while Valerya Castillo had 10 service aces. Scott City will be in Hoisington for a triangular with Hoisington and Southeast of Saline Tuesday afternoon
