Man arrested for striking vehicle and garage while intoxicated

Garden City, Kan.–Garden City Police arrested a man after he struck a parked vehcile and damaged his own vehicle while intoxicated.

Just before 11 p.m. Friday night, Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the 1300 block of N. 13th Street for a reported injury accident. When they arrived, they found that a garage and a parked pickup truck in the driveway had been struck. The suspected vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was located across the street with extensive front‑end damage.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Nickolas Asebedo, ran from the crash as Officers arrived, jumping several fences to escape the area. Officers located Asebedo at his home, and further investigation determined he was driving under the influence and registered a blood alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit. Asebedo was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail for DUI, Interference LEO, Tampering with an Ignition Interlock Device, and Duty Upon Striking an Unattended Vehicle. There were no injuries reported from the incident.

GCPD reminds the public to please not drink and drive and risk lives unnecessarily, not just during the holidays, but at any time of the year.
