Broncbusters polish off sweep at home versus Seward

Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College completed a doubleheader sweep of Seward County Community College with an 8-5 victory in Game 2 on Thursday at Williams Stadium.

Garden City used a balanced offensive effort and timely late-inning execution to pull away after Seward trimmed the deficit midway through the game.

Sean Togher led the way with four hits, while Aiden Wilson drove in three runs and Karson Evans added two hits and an RBI.

Seward struck first with two runs in the opening inning, but Garden City answered immediately in the bottom half. Wilson delivered a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2.

Garden City took control in the third inning, scoring three runs on timely hitting and situational execution. Wilson and Will Togher each drove in runs, while Brady Eklund added an RBI single to give Garden City a 5-2 lead.

An RBI single from Evans in the fourth extended the lead to 6-2 before Seward responded with three runs in the sixth, capitalizing on hits and a defensive miscue to cut the deficit to one.

Garden City answered again in the seventh. A run scored on a double-play ball, followed by a passed ball that brought in another, pushing the lead to 8-5 and providing key insurance runs.

Joe Baumbach (1-2) earned the win in relief, while Corey Williams closed the door with three scoreless innings to record the save.

Brooks Kappelmann (0-1) took the loss for Seward after allowing six runs over four innings.

Garden City finished with 13 hits in the win, while Seward totaled nine.
