Garden City, KS — After a slow start, the Garden City Community College women’s basketball team surged over the final three quarters to knock off Cowley 62–58 on Saturday afternoon at Conestoga Arena, earning the Broncbusters’ first home win over the Tigers since 2024.

Cowley jumped out early and held Garden City to eight first-quarter points, but the Broncbusters steadied themselves with defensive pressure and a much sharper second quarter to cut into the deficit at the break. From there, Garden City flipped the game with a 20–13 third quarter and matched it with another 20-point fourth, closing the day on a 60–38 run after the opening period.

Paula Fernandez led the way with 16 points—knocking down four 3-pointers—while Deija Roberson delivered a big all-around afternoon with 15 points and six rebounds. Garden City’s defensive activity and toughness on the glass made the difference, as the Broncbusters finished with 15 offensive rebounds, forced 17 Cowley turnovers, and turned those miscues into 21 points.

Marshea Fisher anchored that effort with 12 rebounds, six assists, and three steals, and Caryle Fortas added 11 points while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the foul line. Garden City also stayed composed late, shooting 11-for-12 (91.7%) at the stripe.

With the victory, Garden City improved to 11–2 overall and 6–2 in KJCCC play.
