Colby, KS – Garden City closed out February with one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday, defeating Colby 60-45 behind a dominant offensive outing from Sokhna Ndiaye, who poured in 27 points to lead all scorers.

From the opening minutes, the Broncbusters set a physical tone. After Colby grabbed an early 2-0 edge, Garden City responded with pressure defense and paint production. Deija Roberson got the Busters on the board at the free-throw line, and Ndiaye quickly established herself inside — finishing through contact and converting an early three-point play to ignite the offense.

The turning point of the first quarter came during a 9-0 Garden City run fueled by defense. London Turner provided an immediate spark off the bench, scoring back-to-back buckets while also collecting steals that led to transition opportunities. The Busters forced multiple Colby turnovers in the opening frame and limited the Trojans to tough, contested looks. Garden City carried a strong 19-10 lead into the second quarter.

Colby trimmed the margin in the second period, capitalizing on a few Broncbuster miscues and knocking down perimeter shots to pull within four. The game slowed into a half-court battle, but Garden City stayed composed. Marshea Fisher controlled the defensive glass and helped stabilize possessions, while Elektra Mjoll added key minutes defensively. At halftime, the Busters still held a 25-21 advantage.

The third quarter belonged to Ndiaye. The sophomore forward consistently attacked the rim, scored through traffic, and stepped out to knock down a critical three-pointer that stretched the lead back to multiple possessions. She scored 12 points in the second half alone and proved to be the steady offensive option whenever Colby threatened to close the gap.

Caryle Fortas also delivered a timely three in the third, and Roberson added interior points to keep momentum on Garden City’s side. Despite Colby cutting the deficit to three late in the quarter, the Busters answered every push and entered the fourth ahead 38-35.

In the final ten minutes, Garden City’s defense once again separated the teams. Turner opened the quarter with a strong finish inside, and Mjoll followed with a three-pointer that pushed the lead to eight. The Busters forced key turnovers and converted at the free-throw line to prevent any late Trojan rally.

Ndiaye finished with 27 points, controlling the paint and providing consistent scoring throughout. Turner added impactful minutes with aggressive drives and defensive energy, while Roberson and Fisher contributed important rebounds and defensive stops. Fortas and Mjoll each added timely perimeter shots to help stretch the defense.

Down the stretch, Garden City sealed the win at the line, turning a competitive game into a comfortable 15-point victory.

With the win, the Broncbusters improve to 16-12 overall and 11-12 in KJCCC play, closing February with momentum heading into the final regular-season contest.
