Dodge City basketball splits with Lakin

The Dodge City High School basketball teams hosted Lakin on Friday night in their final games before the holiday break. The Lady Demons dropped their game 55-30 with the Red Demons picking up their second win of the year 60-49. 

The first quarter of the girls game went Dodge City’s way, outscoring the Broncs 13-5 in the opening period. However, a 15-5 second quarter for Lakin put the Lady Demons behind at the half 20-18.

Junior guard Alea Smith contributed eight points in the loss. Senior forward Emma Bell did not score, but contributed 10 rebounds to help Dodge City out-rebound Lakin 41-28.

In the boy’s game, the Demons outscored Lakin in all four quarters, with the second quarter being the largest margin at 16-11. Every other quarter was won by two points.

Senior guard Ty Scheck scored 22 points for Dodge City to lead all scorers. Junior guard Cru Lembright had 12 points and pulled down six rebounds. 

The duo combined for eight of the 12 made three pointers for Dodge City in the win.  

Both Dodge City teams enter the break with a 2-3 record and will return to action on Jan. 2 when they host Cimarron at the Civic Center.
