Dodge City girls 2nd at Great Bend Christmas Clash, several area wrestlers make the podium

Great Bend, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Several area schools competed in a high quality early season girls tournament over Friday and Saturday at the Great Bend Christmas Clash at Great Bend High School. Thirty-three teams made up the field that saw several ranked wrestlers in the all-class and individual class rankings.

Manhattan would have the depth to win the team race, running away with the tournament title by 68.5 points over runner-up Dodge City. The Lady Red Demons won four weight classes, while the Lady Indians took two individual titles. Elizabeth Ramirez at 105, Miranda Alvarez at 110, Yareli Garcia at 155 and Naomi Orozo at 170 were tournament champions. Russell, Junction City and Norton rounded out the top five. Among other area schools, Scott City was 15th with Haylie McDaniel taking third at 110 and Tatum Brown placing fourth. Cimarron was 18th, as Peyton Smith was runner-up at 235 and Aubree Dean was seventh at 170. Holcomb placed 22nd, as Amaya Caro was seventh at 145 and McKenzie Simon placed eighth at 135.
