Finney County Sheriff’s Deputy injured while responding to accident
Garden City, Kan.–A Finney County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured Monday afternoon just after 3 while responding to an accident.
According to the report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2023 Dodge 1500 driven by 24-year-old Riley Muniz of Pierceville, a Finney County Sheriff’s Deputy, was responding to a prior dispatched injury collision involving a teen driver, when he passed a 2018 Mack Truck on the left driven by 61-year-old Jon Olomon of Garden City, as Olomon initiated the left turn. Olomon collided with the passenger side of the Muniz vehicle, causing it to travel off the roadway into the ditch at the northwest corner of the intersection.
The emergency lights and siren for the Sherriff’s Deputy vehicle were activated. The Muniz vehicle overrturned and came to rest on its roof, while he Mack Truck came to a controlled stop on North Solar Avenue.
Muniz was transported to St.Catherine’s Hospital for suspected minor injuries. Olomon was uninjured. Both were properly restrained according to the KHP report.
Later in the day Monday, the Finney County Sheriff’s Office reported on social media that Muniz was realeased from the hospital and is doing well.
