Garden City girls dominate field in 5th Rocky Welton

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The 5th Annual Rocky Welton Girls Invitational saw a dominant team performance by Garden City on Friday and Saturday at The Refinery. It was the first year that the tournament has been held at the new venue after being at Garden City High School.

Garden City essentially clinched the team title in the first day, putting 10 into the semi-finals and pushing three into the finals. The Lady Buffs would win two individual titles, as Crystal Loera won by tech fall at 115, and Marina Loera was the champion at 125, winning by major decision in the finals. Dodge City was seventh, as Yareli Garcia was the champion at 155. Holcomb was 14th, led by Alexis White’s third place finish at 155, Ulysses was 16th, with Jeymi Rosales placing fith at 125, Scott City finished 17th, as Amaya Parker led the way with a fourth place finish, and Cimarron was 22nd, as Peyton Smith was the runner-up at 235.

Bennett sophomore Emma Faczak was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler, as she won the 105-pound weight class.
