Garden City man dies when train strikes stuck vehicle
Edwards County, Kan.–A Garden City man died after his vehicle was struck on the railroad tracks, just before 3:30 am in Edwards County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Honda Civic driven by 29-year-old Aaron JG Pineda was suck on the railroad tracks on 310th Avenue just north of U.S. Highway 50, when an eastbound Amtrack train stuck the vehicle.
Pineda was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to McKillip Funeral Home. The KHP report stated it was unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt. On the Amtrack train, the conductor, engineer and 113 occupants on board were uninjured.
