GCPD

Garden City, Kan.–The Garden City Police Department is informing the public that a recent social media post concerning human trafficking in southwest Kansas is false.

In a post on Monday, the GCPD Facebook page said “We are aware of recent social media posts raising concerns and suggesting child abductions or attempted abductions linked to human trafficking in Garden City and southwest Kansas. While human trafficking remains a serious concern that warrants vigilance, we have not received any legitimate reports of these incidents occurring locally nor have any arrests been made in connection with these claims. Furthermore, these posts appear to be resurfaced or have circulated before.”

The GCPD goes on to say that if you have a concern about any suspicious activity occurring in Garden City, please call us at (620) 276-1300 or 911 if it is an emergency. Please do not report suspected crimes through social media or share posts about crimes that may cause fear and panic without verifying the validity of the post first.

They remind everyone to continue to look out for one another, and stay safe and vigilant.
