Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College opened the night with energy and confidence, but couldn’t sustain the momentum as Hutchinson Community College used a strong second half to secure a 68–61 win Wednesday night.

The Broncbusters came out firing early, jumping to a quick 13–4 lead behind strong play from Marshea Fisher and Carlye Fortas. Garden City continued to control tempo through much of the opening quarter, finishing the period ahead 23–16 and showcasing balanced scoring and active defense.

The momentum carried into the second quarter, with GCCC extending its lead to as much as 35–30 late in the half. Deija Roberson, London Turner, and Paula Fernandez all provided key contributions, while the Broncbusters’ ball movement created quality looks. Garden City went into the locker room holding a 35–30 advantage.

The third quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle. Hutch slowly chipped away, tying the game at 40–40 midway through the period. Luana Luz drained a buzzer-beating three to close the quarter, giving Garden City a brief 47–45 edge heading into the fourth.

However, the final ten minutes belonged to the Blue Dragons. Hutchinson capitalized on second-chance opportunities and turnovers, using multiple offensive rebounds and key stops to build momentum. Garden City struggled to find rhythm offensively down the stretch, allowing Hutch to stretch the lead and control the final minutes.

Despite the loss, the Broncbusters showed flashes of strong basketball, including a dominant opening stretch and multiple scoring runs throughout the contest. Garden City continues to show growth and competitiveness as conference play intensifies.

Garden City now turns its focus to the next challenge.
