Lady Beaver volleyball eager to showcase their talent

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The 2024 season had a tough ending for the Lady Beavers at 17-21 on the season. While they graduated several key pieces to that team, four seniors, as well as talented group of juniors, return in hopes to make a deep postseason run.

Returning to the court are seniors Valerya Castillo, Piper Fox, Crissa Irvin, and Kinleigh Wren, along with returning starter in junior Peyton Gentry.

Shelby Feely returns as head coach, and is the third head coach in the last three seasons for the Lady Beavers. Feely went 106-43 in four seasons from 2017-20, that included a 2019 GWAC title. Assisting her will be Desiree Cooper, who was a teammate and classmate of Feely’s. She enters her second season on the volleyball staff. New to the coaching staff is Jessica Berning.

The first week is a schedule that will be challenging. Tuesday is a jamboree in Scott City with Hoxie and South Gray, a triangular with Wallace County and Oakley next Friday, August 29, and they’ll follow that up with the Maroon & Gold Invitational in Hays next Saturday. The tournament in Hays features five new teams to the tournament. Scott City will face Hays, Olathe North and Lawrence Free State in pool play. Other teams in the tournament include Clearwater, TMP Marian, Gardner-Edgerton and Bishop Carroll. The following Tuesday will send the Lady Beavers to a triangular in Hoisington featuring Hoisington and Southeast of Saline.
