Longhorns sweep Scott City
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In their final outings before the Christmas break, Holcomb visited Scott City for a GWAC doubleheader on Friday night inside Scott Community Events Center. It would be a sweep for the Longhorns, as the girls picked up a 62-47, while the boys took a 63-47 win.

The No. 4 ranked team in Class 3A, trailed for only a handful of seconds. After Scott City led early on 1-0, Holcomb scored the next 10 points and never looked back. They Lady Longhorns took a 19-8 lead after the first quater, and pushed their margin to 35-17 at the break. The Lady Beavers had no answer for a run all night, as they were unable to get a run going. Holcomb (7-0, 2-0 GWAC) led by as many as 25 in the game, and led 47-24 after three quarters, before settling for a 62-43 win.
Leading the way was Isabella Galliart with 21 points, while Delilah Galliart added 11 and Zoey Cranston finished with 10 points. They were 14-24 from the free throw line and finished with 12 turnovers. Scott City (1-5, 0-2) got 14 from Peyton Gentry and 12 from Piper Fox, as they went 7-13 from the charity line and committed 24 turnovers.
With the win, Holcomb has won 10 straight and 11 of the last 12 in the series, and now hold a series record of 40-27.

Holcomb Boys 63, Scott City 47
Holcomb would never trail, as the No. 4 team would withstand every run the Beavers hit them with. The Longhorns led 18-14 after the first quarter, and saw Scott City rally to within 20-18 with 5:29 left in the second quarter. That’s the closest the Beavers got the rest of the night. They would not hit a field goal over a six-minute stretch of the half, and Holcomb (7-0, 2-0 GWAC) was able to extend thetir lead to 28-19 at the break. With just under three minutes left in teh third quarter, Scott City (2-4, 0-2) was able to pull to within 41-34, but a Longhorn run of 11-2 over the final two minutes of the third quarter would separate Holcomb from the Beavers, giving them a 52-36 lead afte the third stanza. The Longhorns built their lead to 63-41 with 3:46 left, before settling for a 63-47 lead.
Ayden Brown led the way for Holcomb with 20 points, and Brody Deniston added 11. The Longhorns were 9-13 from the free throw line and had eight turnovers. Scott City got a career-high 19 from Brody Stoecklein and 10 points from Junior Meza. The Beavers shot 5-8 from the foul line and committed 18 turnovers.
The win by Holcomb snaps a two-game win streak by the Beavers. Scott City now leads the series 35-34.
