Open Houses scheduled for Garden City Public Schools
Garden City Public Schools has scheduled open houses for the start of the school year. Open houses provide parents the opportunity to become familiar with the schools, teachers, and classrooms that their children will be attending.
There will be an open house on Thursday, August 7th at Plymell Elementary School. Kindergarten students and parents will meet from 5:45-6:15 p.m. and then all students in Kindergarten – 6th grade will be meeting from 6:15-7:15 p.m.
Open houses on Monday, August 11th include: Abe Hubert Elementary School, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., Buffalo Jones Elementary School, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Edith Scheuerman Elementary School, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., Florence Wilson Elementary School, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Gertrude Walker Elementary School, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Jennie Wilson Elementary School, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., Victor Ornelas Elementary School, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., Charles Stones Intermediate Center, 6:00 – 7:20 p.m., Horace Good Middle School, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., and Kenneth Henderson Middle School, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Open houses on Tuesday, August 12th include: Alta Brown Elementary School, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., Georgia Matthews Elementary School, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Jennie Barker Elementary School, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m., Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m., and Garden City High School, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Garfield Early Childhood Center open house will be held on Wednesday, August 13th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Garden City Achieve open house will be held on Thursday, August 14th from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
The Virtual Academy will hold an open house on Tuesday, August 19th from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
The district is asking parents to update their contact information with the schools. The district needs this contact information so buildings can contact families on any updates as we progress through the school year.
The first day of school for the 2025-26 school year will be Wednesday, August 13th with a half-day orientation for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth and tenth grades and all students new to Garden City Public Schools. Abe Hubert Elementary School, Jennie Barker Elementary School and Plymell Elementary School are also encouraging sixth graders to attend school on August 13th. This will help the students at those schools get prepared for the start of the school year.
The first full day of school for Garden City Public Schools is Thursday, August 14, 2025, when all classes will be in session for the start of the 2025-26 school year.
