Scott City baseball splits with Lakin, softball sweeps Lakin, tennis hosts home invite

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a busy Thursday afternoon for Scott City athletics, as baseball and softball traveled to Lakin, while tennis would host their own invitational.

Starting off with baseball, the Beavers split their doubleheader with the Lakin Broncs in Lakin. Game one went the way of the Beavers in a 13-5 win. Scott City put up 10 runs over the first three innings to separate themselves from the Broncs, and added two in the fifth and another in the seventh. Lakin scored three in the fourth, and a run in the fifth and seventh innings. Easton Eisenhour had three hits and three RBI, while Aaren Radke and Jackson Harris had two hits and two RBI. Teagan Feely gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work. The Beavers would score the first two runs of the game, with a run in the second and fourth, but the Broncs would score the games final four runs in a 4-2 setback. Lakin scored in the fourth and fifth and took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Scott City would outhit the Broncs 8-6. Emilio Contreras had three hits, while Avery Radke had two hits and drove in two runs. Spencer Cramer took the loss, giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.

Scott City is now 6-4 on the year, as they will play at Colby on Tuesday in a GWAC doubleheader.

Softball would also play in Lakin on Thursday, as they would complete a doubleheader sweep. It was a shutout in the opener 8-0, as the Lady Beavers scored a run in the first and sixth, and opened the game up with six runs in the seventh. They would crank out 11 hits in the win. Peyton Gentry had two hits and drove in two runs for Scott City while Ava Deines and Adalei Zeller had two hits and an RBI. Baylee Wolkensdorfer scattered five hits in seven shutout innings for the win. In the finale, the Lady Beavers never trailed, putting up five runs over the first two innings. Leading 8-1 after 3 1/2 innings, Lakin put a four spot on the board in the bottom of the fourth to pull to within 8-5. Scott City added a run in the fifth, and pulled away with a seven-run seventh, en route to the 16-5 win. Lakin outhit the Lady Beavers in the loss 11-10. Peyton Gentry ahd three hits and drove in two runs. Adalei Zeller hit a solo home run and had a two-run single in the seventh to get the rally going. Crissa Irvin, Baylee Wolkensdorfer also had two RBI in the win. Wolkensdorfer gave up five runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts in all seven innings in the circle.

The Lady Beavers are 8-0, and are off to their best start since 2022. They will host Colby on Tuesday in a league doubleheader.

Boys tennis would host the annual Scott City Invitational on Thursday. The Beavers would place seventh as a team. Reed Batterton would place fifth at No. 2 Singles, while the No. 2 Doubles team of Isaiah Rogers/Brice Koehn also took fifth. Placing seventh would be Emilio Alarcon at No. 1 Singles and Brant Powelson/Carson Bennett, and in eighth place at No. 1 Doubles was Trey Stoecklein/Seth Shackelford, as they were used as a fill-in for an open spot in the tournament. Central Plains would win the meet, Garden City was second and Phillipsburg took third in the team race.
