Scott City boys, Ulysses girls claim Ron Smith Invitational titles

Ulysses, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Over the two days, Ulysses High School would host the Ron Smith Invitational, as the girls took the mats on Friday and the boys for the 62nd invitational would compete on Saturday. Ulysses would claim the girls title, while Scott City rallied in the final few weight classes to repeat as the boys tournament champions.

On Friday for the girls, the Lady Tigers would win six of the weight classes, with Yosselin Delgado at 100, Lyla Eddie at 110, Bria Havel at 115, Jeymi Rosales at 130, Britnee Hittle at 140 and Aaliyah Espino won at 170. Garden City saw Lena Ortiz at 120, Kimberly Martinez Perez at 125, Raygen Meza-McDermott at 135 and Jaslene Moncada at 145 win tournament titles. Wichita County was third and saw Jentri Porter win the 105-pound weight class and Kenya Jones take the 190-pound title. Stanton County had an indivdual champion at 155 with Reanna Burger.

The boys took to the mats on Saturday. It would be a tight race for the team title between Hugoton, Scott City and Ulysses for most of the day. In the end, the Beavers would have just enough to win, as they won by 2.5 points over the Tigers. Scott City got tournament wins from Matthew Wheeler at 150, Blaze Gossman at 165, Easton Eisenhour at 190 and Max Depperschmidt at 285 pounds. Ulysses saw tournament titles from Maddox Delgado at 126, Preston Hittle at 157 and Dallas Garza at 215. Hugoton was third, with Isaiah Peachey winning at 113 and Cooper Nix at 144 winning tournament titles. Holcomb saw Angelo Otero win at 120 and Haegen Hartman take the title at 132. Wichita County’s Beau Porter was the tournament champion at 175.
