Scott City sweeps Cimarron
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After an 18-day layoff, the Scott City Beaver basketball teams returned home on Tuesday night, as they played host to the Cimarron Bluejays in GWAC play. The Beavers would get the doubleheader sweep, as the Lady Beavers doubled up Cimarron 56-28, while the Scott City boys held off the Bluejays 59-50.
Scott City Girls 56, Cimarron 28
The Lady Beavers started out a little sluggish, but would put together several long runs in the first half. After an early tie at 2, Scott City scored the next six points, and closed the final two minutes of the first frame with seven straight to lead 15-6. They extended that run to 15-0 and led 23-6 with six minutes left before half. The Lady Beavers scored nine straight to open up a 33-11 lead with 2:19 left before the break, and took a 37-14 halftime lead. Scott City (2-5, 1-2 GWAC) opened up a 42-14 lead in the third quarter, and eventually took a 50-20 lead into the final period. Cimarron (2-6, 1-3) outscored the Lady Beavers 8-6 in the final eight minutes that featured a continuous clock, as Scott City picked up the 56-28 win.
Piper Fox led Scott City with her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, as the Lady Beavers went 13-25 from the free throw line and committed 13 turnoves. Cimarron was led by Tayley Kopper with seven points, as the Lady Bluejays shot 6-10 at the foul line and had 23 turnovers.
With the win, Scott City now has their longest win streak in series history at five. Cimarron leads the all-time series 17-14.

Scott City Boys 59, Cimarron 50
Scott City never trailed, but were unable to close the door on the Bluejays. Cimarron closed the gap to 7-6 at the 2:26 mark of the first quarter, before the Beavers put up seven straight to close the period to take a 14-6 lead. When Scott City (3-4, 1-2 GWAC) built a 21-11 lead with around five minutes before halftime, the Bluejays responded with a 6-1 run to get to within five with under two minutes left before the break. Scott City led 27-17 at the break, and would build their lead to 37-23 with 3:56 left in the third quarter. Cimarron (1-8, 0-4) would chip away and pulled to within 44-39 early in the fourth quarter. The Beavers would keep the Bluejays at arms length, and led 56-46 with 2:54 left. Scott City’s lead was at 56-50 late before they drained three of four foul shots down the stretch to win 59-50.
Junior Meza led the way with 18 points for Scott City, while Avery Radke had 14 and Drew Metzger added 10 for the Beavers. They were 7-11 from the charity line and had 11 turnovers. Cimarron got 23 points and 13 rebounds from Cade Sonday and 11 from Colby Wilson, as the Bluejays were 11-14 from the free throw line. They finished with 19 turnovers.
With the win, Scott City has now won nine straight against the Bluejays and lead the all-time series 24-1.

Scott City will step out of league play on Friday, as they will travel to Hoxie to face the Indians. The Hoxie girls are 9-0 following their 46-34 win against Colby at home on Tuesday, while the boys are 3-6, as they lost to Colby 97-31 on Tuesday. Cimarron visits Holcomb on Friday.
