Scott County Law Enforcement Center warns of scams affecting community
The Scott County Law Enforcement Center reports that it has received reports from three community members regarding phone calls from individuals claiming to be deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. In each instance, the caller stated that the individual had missed jury duty and was required to pay a fee over the phone to avoid having a warrant issued for their arrest.
In a release, all reported calls originated from a phone number with the prefix 785-287-XXXX. If you receive a call from this prefix and do not recognize the number, do not answer the call.
The LEC advises that law enforcement will not contact individuals by phone to demand payment for missed jury duty or to threaten arrest. If you have concerns about jury duty or possible outstanding warrants, contact the Scott County Law Enforcement Center directly at 620-872-2133.
They ask to not provide personal or financial information over the phone to unknown callers.
