Snowstorm hits southwest Kansas Friday

A winter storm brought the first significant snowfall to southwest Kansas on Friday.

The National Weather Service in Dodge City issued a Winter Weather Advisory and a Winter Storm Warning to the area. Most places were expected to receive no more than four inches of snow.

There were reports that Johnson received 13 inches of snow, while Ulysses had 10 inches, Syaracuse 9 inches, Scott City 8 inches, Garden City 7 inches, and Dodge City 4 inches.

Several activities and events were cancelled for the weekend, while schools were closed, or were dismissed during the day.
