Tafoya’s Five-HR Day, McRoberts Walk-Off Lift Busters to Split

Garden City, KS – The Garden City Community College Broncbusters split a conference doubleheader with No. 24 Barton Community College on Saturday afternoon at Williams Stadium, highlighted by a dramatic walk-off win in the finale. Garden City used explosive offense in both contests, including a historic day at the plate from Mason Tafoya.

Game 1: Barton 16, Garden City 18

The opener turned into a back-and-forth slugfest, with both teams trading big innings throughout.

Garden City jumped out early and later erupted for 10 runs in the sixth inning to take control. The Broncbusters totaled 14 hits and 18 runs in the win, overcoming a 12-run inning from Barton in the middle frames.

Mason Tafoya led the charge with two home runs and four RBI, while Karson Evans delivered a huge performance with three hits and five RBI. Sean Philpotts added three RBI, and Will Togher drove in two as the lineup produced up and down the order.

On the mound, Andrew Torres closed out the final innings to secure the win as Garden City outlasted the No. 24 ranked Cougars.

Game 2: Garden City 18, Barton 16

The nightcap delivered even more offense and late-game drama, as the Broncbusters walked it off to split the series.

Garden City once again erupted offensively, finishing with 15 hits and nine home runs as part of an explosive performance at the plate. The Broncbusters scored in six different innings before Aiden McRoberts delivered the game-winning walk-off hit in the ninth to seal the victory.

Mason Tafoya headlined the day with an incredible performance, blasting three home runs in Game 2 to finish with five home runs on the day. He drove in six runs and scored four times in the finaleAiden Roberts added three hits and five RBI, while Sean TogherKarson Evans, and Aiden Wilson each homered in the win.

With the split, Garden City moves to 10–18 overall and 4–8 in conference play, showing offensive firepower against a nationally ranked opponent.

Next Up: The Broncbusters will return to action Tuesday, March 24, as they host McCook for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
