Three injured in Scott County accident Saturday night
Scott County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Three people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident just after 9 p.m. Saturday night in Scott County, three-tenths north of the Kansas Highway 4/U.S. Highway 83 junction.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that a 2009 International Prostar Semi Truck driven by 53-year-old Federico Tonche of Dallas, Texas was southbound on U.S. Highway 83, following a 2007 Nissan Titan Pickup driven by a 17-year-old. Tonche passed the pickup in a no passing zone and during the pass, the pickup turned left into the passing semi by a driveway approach. The semi overturned onto its drivers side and came to rest facing northwest across both lanes of travel on U.S. Highway 83. The pickup overturned and came to rest in the west ditch facing northeast on its wheels.
Tonche was taken to Scott County Hospital for suspected minor injuries. The 17-year old driver of the Nissan pickup and passenger, 28-year-old Jaime De La Rocha Cruz of Scott City, were taken to Scott County Hospital for suspected minor injuries.
According to the KHP report, Tonche was wearing a seatbelt, while the driver and passenger in the pickup were not wearing a seatbelt.
