Two injured in Seward County accident

Seward County, Kan.–A three-vehicle accident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 54 and U.S. Highway 83 in Liberal.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, being driven by 42-year-old Griselda Martinez, 42, and a 2017 Honda Civic being driven by 18-year-old Edwin Mayorga, also of Liberal, were stopped at the stop light at the U.S. Highway 83/U.S. Highway 54 junction, when a 2025 Freightliner being driven by 32-year-old Manpreet Mangat, of Fresno, California collided with the back of the Elantra, pushing it into the Civic.

Martinez was taken to Southwest Medical Center with suspected serious injuries, while Mayorga was also taken to Southwest Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. Mangat was not injured.

The KHP report says that all three involved were wearing seatbelts.
