Williamson steps down as Dodge City High school basketball head coach

Dodge City high school basketball coach Jeff Williamson has stepped down from his position of Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Dodge City High School.
Williamson led the Red Demons for two seasons, going 17-28 during his tenure. The Red Demons were defeated in the first round of sub-state by Junction City 70-56 on Wednesday night.
“The DCHS Athletic Department is grateful for Coach Williamson’s willingness to lead the Red Demon basketball program over the past two seasons,” Dodge City High School Athletic Director Shawn Steiner said. “He demonstrated genuine care for his players and consistently encouraged them to strive for success both on and off the court. We look forward to seeing our current and future players apply those lessons as they pursue even greater success in the years ahead.”
Williamson came to Dodge City after being the head coach at his alma mater of Logan High School in West Virginia. Before Logan, he led Garden City to a 30-13 record and a Western Athletic Conference championship in 2023.
“After much thought and consideration, I have decided to step down as the head boy’ basketball coach at Dodge City High School,” Williamson said. This decision was not easy, but I feel it is the right time for me to step away for personal reason and spend more time with my family. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the players, coaches and administration at Dodge City High School. I’m proud of the effort out players gave every day and I look forward to watching the program grow and succeed in the future. I would also like to thank Jay Gifford and Shawn Steiner for giving me the opportunity to lead the Red Demon basketball program.”
The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
