55th Annual Rocky Welton Wrestling Tournament Opens Today at GCHS Garden

Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – Its one of the largest High School Wrestling Tournaments this side of Kansas City and features some great talent from a four state area. Its the 55th Rocky Welton Invitational at Garden City High School. The Tournament is named after the legendary wrestling career and Coaching for the Buffaloes after arriving in 1985. Coach Welton produced a lifetime dual record of 200-50-4 over 39 years and 9 State Championships, recording 3 at Goodland, 6 at Garden City and Coached 30 individual State Champions.

The 2013 Tournament will have 29 teams in the field, including some of the area teams that have great records as well, Holcomb, Dodge City and 3A No. 1 Scott City, the Garden City Buffaloes are ranked No. 1 in 6A. It all starts at noon today at the Garden in the High School and the Western Kansas Broadcast Center Sports staff will have live reports coming to you during the two day event. Hourly reports at the top and bottom of the hour will air on Q97 and the “Voice of the Buffs” 99.9 KWKR, starting at 2:00 pm Friday and run to the close of the action that night. On Saturday the two hourly reports will begin at 10:00 AM and run to the conclusion, along with a live video webcast on ustream.com.
