Scott City boys and girls 4th in 3A; area runners medal

Lawrence, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On Saturday at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, the Scott City boys and girls cross country teams came in fourth place in both the team races at the Class 3A State Cross Country meet. Overall, seven southwest Kansas runners finished in the top 20, earning them a state medal.

For the girls, Scott City narrowly missed on a top three finish. Southeast of Saline defended their state title with 85 points, followed by Hiawatha with 93 and Douglass with 100 points. The Lady Beavers had 109 points. Individually, Scott City and Lakin both medaled two runners. For the Lady Broncs, Jennifer Crum and Heather White placed 16th and 17th place, while Scott City’s Makaela Stevens finished in second place, and fellow sophomore Trella Davis was 20th. 

On the boys side, the Beaver boys cross country team missed taking home a trophy by one position. Halstead repeated as state champions, winning by 39 points over runner-up Riley County. Council Grove placed third, 26 points better than Scott City. Three area runners medaled, including Jess Drohman and Dyan Hutchins for Scott City, who placed 10th and 16th respectively, and Lakin’s Talan Jamison was 18th.
