Moran Talks Cuba, Supreme Court Vacancy

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Barack Obama this week has become the first sitting president in 88 years to visit the island nation of Cuba. While both he and Cuban President Raul Castro talked about taking steps to normalize relations between the two countries, US Senator Jerry Moran was in Dodge City Monday and says he does not think this trip is the right way to reach out.

Still Moran knows the US and Kansas can both benefit from expanding markets to Cuba.

Moran believes access to American goods can also put pressure on the Castro regime to change.

President Obama has made his selection of Justice Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy left upon the passing of Antonin Scalia. Making the pick could be easy compared to what will come next. Republican leadership says in an election year the next president should make the nomination instead. Senator Jerry Moran is not in line with that type of thinking.

Moran takes the responsibility to fill the vacancy seriously.

Monday we will wrap up our conversation with the senator.
