Adeline Elizabeth (Fisher) Beck

Adeline Elizabeth (Fisher) Beck, long-time, former Copeland resident, passed away in her home in Scottsdale, Arizona on July10, 2016. She was born to Arthur Andrew and Hilda (Wilson) Fisher on June 13, 1922, and was raised in the Copeland area.

Adeline loved her childhood and growing up in southwest Kansas. She always had many stories to tell of her family and farm life during the depression and the dust bowl years. She graduated from Copeland High School, attended the School of Cosmetology in Wichita and later had her own studio. Adeline worked as a welder at the Wallace Brothers Airplane factory in Hutchinson during World War II. She married her high school sweetheart Bill Beck after he returned from serving in the Army during the war. They were married on August 4, 1945, in the Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson.

Adeline and Bill farmed north of Copeland and raised two daughters. Adeline helped Bill on the farm and the two of them were proud to be a part of the 1979 American Agriculture Movement Tractorcade to Washington, D.C. Adeline was well known for her china painting, sewing, gardening and cooking talents. She volunteered in her daughters’ schools and was always available to drive them and their friends to athletic, dance, music, speech, drill team, 4-H and other activities. She was actively involved in the Kansas Genealogy Society and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Huguenot Society, the Atomera Club, and the Copeland Methodist Church. Adeline and Bill enjoyed playing pinnacle and square dancing with their friends. They retired from farming in 1995 and moved to Arizona to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren, but remained close to friends and relatives in Kansas.

Adeline will be greatly missed by her daughters, Jo Bailard (Gene) of San Carlos, CA and Sherree D’Amico (Mike) of Scottsdale, AZ; her grandchildren, Jennifer Bailard of Henderson NV and Nick D’Amico; her sisters Laura Mills, Bloomington, IN and Judy (Ken) Kohler, Charlotte, NC; her brother Tony (Joyce) Fisher, Copeland and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64-years, Bill, and sisters Bea Alexander and Faye Fisher, who died at birth.
